NEW YORK--()--In celebration of its fourth print quarterly and 1-year anniversary, Modern Farmer Media announced today the launch of Pig Week and the Modern Farmer 'Ham Cam'. From March 10th-15th, ModernFarmer.com will feature a 24-hour live stream of seven American Guinea Hogs from the Pettitoes backyard farm in Warwick, Massachusetts. The ‘Ham Cam’ will provide an in-depth view into the lives of Fannie the Sow, her offspring, and their everyday routines, which include feedings of leftovers from the local pizza parlor everyday at 4 PM ET.

Pettitoes farm owner Claudia Lewis comments: “Several years ago I convinced my husband that it would be a good idea to raise American Guinea Hogs, a small heritage breed that works well in a backyard setting. I hope that the Ham Cam is a positive experience for folks, and though it is still snowy and cold, Fannie and her crew are a lively example of the wonders of backyard farming!”

Modern Farmer's Editor-in-Chief Ann Marie Gardner shares: “We are thrilled to launch our 4th farm cam. We’re sure that Ham Cam, like our Goat Cam and Lamb Cam, will be a highly entertaining distraction!”

Like Shark Week but for pigs, Pig Week will be entirely dedicated to pig related content. Articles on www.modernfarmer.com will examine everything from why we don’t drink pig milk to the Teacup Pig pet phenomenon. “We have so many great stories in the line up,” adds Gardner. “We’ll be running 6 online stories a day. We'll take a look at everything from growing human organs in pigs, to a beauty story on pretty pigs, and the most humane way to kill a pig. Our themed weeks always generate a lot of excitement with our readers."

The fourth print issue of Modern Farmer magazine launches simultaneously and features Lola the Landrace pig on the cover. Issue 4 continues Modern Farmer’s comprehensive coverage of the food and farming issues behind what we eat. Highlights include James Beard award-winning writer Mark Kurlansky, who takes an in-depth look at the changing culture of milk producers and the costs of putting a cow's quality of life ahead of milk output. Popular columns Ask an Ag Minister, How To, Rurbanista, and Dos and Don’ts will also return. Other stories include:

Ask an Ag Minister: An interview with the world's youngest Agricultural minister.

Weather: Animals Falling from the Sky: Freelancer, Justin Nobel, looks at the myth and strange reality of "animal rains" -- from "Magnolia’s” frogs to actual incidents of falling insects and mammals.

Apocalypse: Floating Farms: Modern Farmer's Senior Staff Writer, Jesse Hirsch, digs into the futuristic notion of farming on man-made islands.

Agronomics: Mexico's Top Shelf: A feature on how the trend of upscale Mexican dining has fueled a boom in tequila and mezcal all over the world.

Rurbanista: A close look at the new eco-friendly Portable House.

Locally Made: Glass: Andy Wright looks at the world of scientific glass and speaks to the artisan who made the test tube for Dolly the sheep.

Culture: Farm Noir: Modern Farmer talks to authors who get their inspiration from the dusty, isolated farmland of America, inspiring the recent publishing trend of "rural noir".

Food: Local Grains: Managing Editor, Molly Birnbaum, digs into the world of American chefs, bakers and farmers who are trying to use local grains in bread and alcohol.

Animal photo essay: Photographer, Celine Clanet, documents the lives of a hardy set of cows and their owners, who roam the mountainside of the French Alps.

Last Word: An interview with major league baseball pitcher and farmer Ross Ohlendorf.
