Two-Man Chicken Bobsled Team Goes for Gold – Golden KFC Crispy Strips, That Is

Bobsled National Team Members Star in Latest #HowDoYouKFC Film

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--()--While the USA-1 team in Sochi became the first two-man U.S. bobsled team to win a medal in more than a half-century, two athletes also made history stateside by piloting the first ever two-man chicken sled.

That’s right. A two-man chicken sled.

The latest #HowDoYouKFC film goes to another athletic extreme to show the portability and snackability of the KFC Go Cup. This effort features two world-class athletes, a bobsled, five times the force of gravity, and a KFC Go Cup filled with Extra Crispy™ Tenders.

The video features Team USA Bobsled brakeman Jim Carriel, and retired Team USA Bobsled pilot Landon Phillips. The duo speeds down the track at 70 mph while Carriel eats KFC chicken from a Go Cup in the sled’s custom cup-holder, at the same time he’s pulling five Gs.

“Thanks to the KFC Go Cup, we can now do our two favorite things – eat KFC chicken and race our bobsled at the same time. It’s changed everything,” said Carriel. “No other bobsled team out there is pulling five Gs while eating chicken.

“More casual fans of chicken sled racing may not know the physical demands five Gs puts on an athlete. Do you know how much an Extra Crispy Strip ‘weighs’ at five Gs?” Carriel asked. “It’s almost a half pound. Seriously. Don’t try this at home, kids.”

The bobsled video joins a growing list of #HowDoYouKFC films that are taking KFC to places no chicken has gone before. From a video of the first-ever motorcycle backflip while eating chicken to a film featuring a ski jumper enjoying Extra Crispy Strips in mid-flight, the videos have received millions of views. The films are the work of KFC agency Draftfcb Chicago.

“We spent two years testing the portability of our Go Cup, but making sure it worked in cars was just the beginning,” said Kevin Hochman, Chief Marketing Officer for KFC U.S. “Of late, we’ve taken portability to the next level – motorcycles, ski jumpers and now bobsleds. Not sure what the next mega-portability test might be. Maybe we’ll find ourselves a test pilot.”

While Carriel and Phillips didn’t make it to Sochi this winter, the team continues to train and remains committed as ever, with an eye on the 2018 games.

“Our performance in Park City was a good start, but we’re not satisfied,” said Phillips. “We think we can improve our time if we make a few aerodynamic tweaks to the Go Cup. In the sport of competitive chicken sled racing, every tenth of a second matters.”
