HUDSON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, the leading fabric and craft specialty retailer in America, is proud to announce more than $29 million in corporate giving for the fiscal year running February 3, 2013, to February 1, 2014*.
"Since our founding in 1943, Jo-Ann has strived to ensure the strength and well-being of the communities we call home," said Travis Smith, CEO and president of Jo-Ann Stores. "I am both humbled and proud to be able to give back and make an impact in so many communities. It would not be possible if not for the dedication and commitment of our more than 20,000 Team Members nationwide.”
Education-focused non-profits were the main recipient of Jo-Ann corporate giving. Merchandise from Jo-Ann stores was donated to Kids in Need resource centers across the country to provide teachers with much-needed supplies for their classrooms free of charge. Additionally, a $25,000 Kids In Need Foundation Teacher Grant was bestowed to provide educators with funding to provide innovative learning opportunities for students.
To further promote opportunities in education, each new Jo-Ann store donated $2,000 to a local school through the Inspired to Help program, and the second annual Kent State University First Generation Scholarship was awarded to a first-generation student enrolled in The Fashion School at Kent State University.
Through the in-store coin box collection program, Jo-Ann customers donated more than $70,000 to the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
