NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Captain D’s is celebrating a successful close to 2013 after establishing an all-time Average Unit Volume sales record. The 45 year old brand finished the year with a strong Q4, boasting a system wide same store sales increase of 2.6 %. This rounded out the fast casual chain’s year of success as they posted system-wide same store sales increases of 3.2% for 2013, which came on top of an 8.3% increase in 2012. In addition to sales growth, Captain D’s has opened 60 new or remodeled restaurants that feature the all new Beach design model that has proven successful for the brand. Several Franchise and Company locations with this new restaurant design have produced double digit sales comps.
Building on its momentum of success, Captain D’s is focusing on franchise growth in 2014. Last year, the brand experienced growing interest from multi-unit/multi-brand owners who were looking to diversify their existing restaurant portfolios and take advantage of Captain D’s sales growth. The expansion included multi-unit agreements that added Captain D’s restaurants in Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia.
“Captain D’s had another record breaking year in 2013,” said Phil Greifeld, CEO and President of Captain D’s. “We continue to see compounding sales growth, which has clearly demonstrated the tremendous growth potential of Captain D’s. The next step in the evolution of our brand is to pursue aggressive unit growth through franchised and corporate locations.”
Along with the sales success, Captain D’s has focused on product innovation—specifically their new Fire Grilled Menu. Due to the positive feedback in test markets, the grilled menu items will be offered system wide at all Captain D’s locations by the end of Quarter 1 of 2014. The new menu items include fan favorites such as freshly prepared Grilled White Fish, Shrimp Skewers, and Surf and Turf. Further innovation includes their new 3D Kids Program that features a new Grilled Fish Tenders meal that meets the NRA’s Kid’s Live Well nutritional guidelines. The 3D KiD’s meals are only 3.99 and come with two sides, a fun pack, 3D glasses and more.
“Captain D’s success is only just beginning,” said Greifeld. “Our talented team continues to implement a systematic strategy that has seen consistent success with our current units, ensuring that any unit we add will be able to reap the financial benefits of our proven model. By focusing on our core value of doing what is right for our guests and continuing to be an innovation leader in our industry, we will continue to bring in loyal and new guests and build upon our momentum of success.”
