PLANO, Texas--()--Netsocket, a technology leader in virtualized, software-defined networking, today announced Netsocket’s Virtual Edge solution, a cloud-managed virtual network specifically optimized for small to medium-sized businesses and enterprise remote office networks. The Virtual Edge solution enables businesses to focus on their core competency and leave the networking to their service provider. In turn, Netsocket’s Virtual Edge solution provides Managed Service Providers (MSPs) with an entry point into offering the full benefits of virtualized networking at the edge with a cost-effective, complete end-to-end cloud-managed virtual network for their distributed SMB and enterprise remote office customers.

The Virtual Edge is a turn-key solution that enables service providers to present their distributed SMB and enterprise remote office customers with:

• Low cost, secure and reliable network connectivity

• A fully-managed service that requires no local expertise or onsite IT resource

• On-demand response to service requests for network configuration moves, adds, changes

• Future proof for service extensibility for a wide range of business services including 4G WAN backup, security, Unified Threat Management, WAN optimization, session border control and voice services

With Netsocket’s Virtual Edge solution, MSPs can now offer small offices the same large enterprise-capable routing functions and other IT services without the need for labor intensive certified engineers and costly truck-rolls associated with conventional network deployments. By utilizing the Virtual Edge solution over conventional networking hardware, operational expenses incurred for networking components alone are reduced by up to 80 percent. “SMB’s pay 2X over enterprises for network services, which makes them the prime candidate that is going to drive cloud-based managed services and NFV at the edge,” said Tom Nolle, President of CIMI Corporation and Chief Architect for the CloudNFV project. Netsocket’s solution enables the virtualized networking functionality MSPs need to provide an affordable networking solution.”

Powered by the Netsocket Virtual Network (NVN), the company’s SDN framework for network virtualization and advanced orchestration, the Virtual Edge solution is a fully automated, centrally managed virtual network that enables service providers to deliver managed network services to its business customers -- without the need to travel to a customer site to install, deploy, update or manage the customer’s network. This is enabled by the solution’s centralized cloud-based network orchestration capabilities combined with virtual networking software hosted on the low-profile and cost-effective standard x86-based MicroCloud Server at the site. The MicroCloud component of NVN ostensibly replaces the traditional costly router, server and Layer 3 switch that would normally be required. The MicroCloud Server is shipped to the customer site and requires the user to plug-in one cable to unleash full virtual network functionality within minutes. “Utilizing the NVN web-based GUI, I’ve been able to make adds and changes to the network within mere minutes,” said Joe Stocker, IT Director for Catapult Systems, a certified Microsoft National Systems Integrator.

Specifically optimized for MSPs who service enterprise and SMB LAN/WAN edge deployments, the Virtual Edge solution enables service providers to efficiently and cost-effectively deliver managed edge routing, switching, firewall, and tunneling capabilities to distributed environments. Additionally, because of NVN’s open ecosystem design, the MSP can deploy additional multi-vendor solutions to the same MicroCloud Server, with all services automatically interconnected via NVN’s powerful orchestration capabilities. All services run at the site on a standard x86-based MicroCloud Server and can be designed, deployed and managed by the MSP service desk using an intuitive centralized multi-tenant management system.

“Managed Service Providers must find a way to provide affordable network services to smaller business customers and at a profit,” stated Fletcher Hamilton, president and CEO of Netsocket. “Netsocket’s Virtual Edge solution does just that. MSPs can now offer reliable, affordable network services and extend their reach to a wider range of customers. We are very excited to pioneer the path for MSPs by delivering a solution that can virtually revolutionize their business and profitability model and in short, result in new revenue streams.”

Netsocket’s Virtual Edge solution is available today.
