MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kaplan University’s 2014 Winter Commencement celebrated the achievements of over 6,800 graduates who earned Associate, Bachelor and Master Degrees from the Schools of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Health Sciences, Information Technology, Legal Studies, Nursing and Public Service. The graduation took place at the James L. Knight International Center in Miami, Florida.
Donald E. Graham, CEO of Graham Holdings Company, the parent company to Kaplan University, delivered the keynote address at each of the two ceremonies held today. He addressed more than 725 graduates in attendance and thousands more watching and celebrating around the world via a live webcast.
He congratulated the graduates on “a triumph – more impressive because of how hard you have worked and how much you overcame to be here.”
Graham has been chief executive officer of Graham Holdings Company, then The Washington Post Company, since 1991 and chairman of the board since 1993. The company’s name changed after the sale of the newspaper in 2013. Additionally, Graham is a director and member of the compensation committee of Facebook and previously served as a member of the Pulitzer Prize Board.
Kaplan University President Dr. Wade Dyke presided over the ceremony and recognized their achievements.
“The reason you forged ahead was the desire to make a positive change in your life and in the lives of those around you through education,” said Dr. Dyke. “Your personal path has not ended; in fact, it has widened your opportunities. As you continue, pursue each endeavor with the same determination that got you here today.”
During the 2012-2013 academic year, Kaplan University conferred over 15,000 degrees and nearly 600 certificates and diplomas.
