Community First Foundation is Distributing $20.9 Million to Nonprofits from Record-Breaking Colorado Gives Day

ARVADA, Colo.--()--Community First Foundation is distributing $20.9 million to 1,442 Colorado nonprofits thanks to Colorado Gives Day donors and sponsors.

A record 88,571 donations were made online at ColoradoGives.org, surpassing last year’s total of 69,127. Since its inception in 2007, more than $79 million has been raised through ColoradoGives.org for nonprofit organizations.

“The success of Colorado Gives Day is a shared success,” says Marla J. Williams, president and CEO of Community First Foundation. “Hardworking nonprofits, generous donors, engaged sponsors — it is wonderful to live in a state filled with people who demonstrate over and over again how much they care about others.”

“This year is truly a monumental year for Colorado Gives Day,” said John Ikard, CEO of FirstBank Holding Company. “We’ve been with this program since its inception and have watched it grow from an idea to becoming one of the most anticipated, extensive and fundamental fundraising initiatives in the state. We’re beyond proud to be Community First Foundation’s corporate partner and are astounded by the generosity of Coloradans and businesses alike this year.”

Nonprofits with the highest number of donations: Denver Rescue Mission with 1,493 donations; Denver Dumb Friends League with 1,435 donations; and Food Bank of the Rockies with 1,377 donations. Nonprofits with the highest donation amounts: Tennyson Center for Children at Colorado Christian Home - $446,822.76; Denver Rescue Mission - $399,156.60; and FRIENDS of Broomfield - $308,025.00

Colorado Gives Day (held on December 10, 2013) features a 24-hour period in which all Coloradans are encouraged to donate online to support their favorite causes. Donations are accepted online at ColoradoGives.org, a year-round giving resource featuring hundreds of charities.

“The support we received from our donors on Colorado Gives Day was amazing!” says Susan Kohut, Development Director of the Women’s Bean Project, a participating Colorado Gives Day nonprofit. “We received over $52,000 in donations which will enable the Bean Project to provide 6,500 hours of job readiness training and support services.”

“Colorado Gives Day provides us an amazing means of encouraging additional philanthropy within our already very generous community,” says Beth Helmke, business manager of Free Horizon Montessori, a participating Colorado Gives Day nonprofit.

FirstBank Boosts Nonprofits

Colorado Gives Day would not be possible without the generous support of FirstBank. This year, FirstBank donated $600,000 to support Colorado Gives Day, which includes the FirstBank Incentive Fund and nonprofit cash prizes.

The $250,000 FirstBank Incentive Fund is being proportionately distributed to nonprofits to give them an extra financial boost. For example, if a nonprofit received 10 percent of total donations on Colorado Gives Day, that nonprofit is receiving 10 percent of the Incentive Fund.

FirstBank also committed $100,000 in additional cash prizes for participating nonprofit organizations. An online trivia contest awarded $10,000. The remaining cash prizes will be announced in January. To be eligible to receive one of FirstBank’s $5,000 prizes, nonprofits must receive a minimum of 30 donations on Colorado Gives Day. Eighteen of these organizations will be randomly selected to win.

A two-year $150,000 grant to Community First Foundation from the Boettcher Foundation and the El Pomar Foundation is helping to expand Colorado Gives Day throughout the state and make it easier for nonprofits outside Denver to use ColoradoGives.org to accept donations online. The grant is in honor of the Foundations’ 75th anniversaries and includes $44,000 for Colorado Gives Day 2013 prizes.
