Technology Industry Veteran Bruce Berger Joins TruTouch Technologies as President & CEO

BOSTON--()--TruTouch Technologies, Inc., makers of the world's first and only non-invasive, highly accurate, networked, biometric alcohol sensor, today announced that Bruce Berger has joined the company as President and Chief Executive Officer. Berger is a highly accomplished executive with more than 20 years experience building computer networking companies to positive exits for investors. He succeeds TruTouch CEO Dr. Richard D. Gill, who remains with the company as a Director and Advisor.

Throughout his career, Berger has demonstrated leadership in bringing early revenue stage companies through critical phases of development from early commercialization to exit by acquisition.

He comes to TruTouch from venture-backed Marathon Technologies where he was CEO. In that position he refocused business strategy and sales efforts, developed key strategic partnerships, expanded the company product line to capture a larger share of the market and increase revenue, leading to an acquisition by Stratus Technologies.

Berger joined Marathon from his former role as CEO of Reva Systems, a venture-backed developer of leading-edge RFID hardware and software solutions. At Reva he successfully closed a Series C round, focused the business on key vertical markets, developed key strategic partnerships, and drove the company to be cash flow positive, leading to a valuable exit in an acquisition by Odin Technologies.

Before Reva, as President and CEO of Verrillon Inc., a venture-backed leading provider of specialty optical fiber for the geophysical, military, defense and industrial markets, Berger established key OEM relationships, grew annual sales from zero to $8M, and created a valuable exit in an acquisition by AFL Telecommunications.

Berger leads the TruTouch executive team of Co-founder & CTO Trent Ridder Ph.D., Co-Founder & VP Engineering Ben Ver Steeg, SVP Sales and Strategic Partnerships Oscar Lazaro and CFO David Desrochers, together suited to build a highly successful networked access control device business for fixed and mobile applications.

"Simply by touch the TruTouch sensor accurately measures blood alcohol and can simultaneously identify the person touching it," said Berger. "In seconds it intercepts alcohol and determines fitness-for-work at the point of entry to any safety-sensitive area without supervision. This solves a critical safety and liability problem that has confounded business and government employers forever. Multinational corporations with global operations can rely on TruTouch to protect high value work environments at every facility on the corporate network worldwide."

Outgoing CEO Dr. Richard Gill said, "I'm confident that the new leadership team will be able to scale the business to fulfill the technology's promise, to allow the world to achieve workplace safety by reducing liability and ensuring fitness for work thereby intercepting alcohol before it does harm."

COMPANY DESCRIPTION: TruTouch Technologies

TruTouch Technologies, Inc. develops, manufactures and sells patented noninvasive alcohol detection and biometric testing systems. These novel systems provide companies with the only truly effective deterrent system available for unobtrusive verification of sobriety on a daily or routine basis. Inspired by the potential to place its passive, durable systems virtually anywhere, TruTouch's vision is to create a world where alcohol consumption is routinely intercepted before it does harm.

The TruTouch 2500 workplace sobriety assurance device is a networked instrument that detects alcohol concentration by directly measuring alcohol levels through the skin using a safe infrared light and an optical touch pad. The device also features biometric capability to verify user identity and ensure the integrity of the testing process. The TruTouch 2500 is targeted for commercialization in workplace as a preliminary screening tool for fit-for-duty applications. TruTouch systems can be seamlessly incorporated into workflow and reporting tools allow management of networked and multisite installations. The resulting reports generate integrated testing records that are not readily available from other alcohol testing approaches. During the last four years, TruTouch devices have completed more than 750,000 tests for customers. Published peer-reviewed clinical studies show a 96% correlation to forensic grade blood test results which are also as accurate as conventional, evidentiary grade systems such as breathalyzers.
