COLUMBUS, Ohio--()--Roetzel is pleased to announce that Partner Michael Traven and Of Counsel attorney Don Mason have both been named to the 2013-14 list of “Who’s Who in Energy” published by American City Business Journals. The list is comprised of key players in the energy field from across the United States, including top executives representing exploration, production, distribution, law and more.

“We are very proud of Mike and Don and this recognition is a testament to their knowledge and capabilities in the energy field,” said Erika Haupt, Partner-in-Charge of Roetzel’s Columbus office. “They are both committed to providing all of our energy clients with sophisticated and innovative legal counsel tailored to the specific needs of each client.”

Mr. Traven focuses his practice on commercial and business related transactions and litigation, particularly with regard to oil and gas related litigation. He represents oil and gas producers in Ohio’s federal and state courts regarding oil and gas leasing and title-related issues. His practice also encompasses shareholder disputes and their fiduciary obligations, real estate litigation, construction litigation, adversary bankruptcy matters, and issues surrounding creditors' rights.

Mr. Traven earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from Capital University Law School and his B.A. from Denison University. He has been selected as an "Ohio Super Lawyers - Rising Star" by Ohio Super Lawyers magazine every year since 2011.

Mr. Mason focuses his practice on energy and environmental policy with an emphasis on regulated public utilities and oil and natural gas development. He served two terms as Commissioner of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. During his tenure, he was appointed to several state and national committees dealing with energy policy. He represented Ohio on the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC), where he chaired various committees, eventually becoming vice-chair. In addition, Mr. Mason served at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as Chief of the Division of Oil and Gas, and was appointed by former U.S. Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham and reappointed by Secretary Samuel Bodman to serve on the National Petroleum Council. He was also a government representative and chairman on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Technical Hazardous Liquid Pipeline Safety Committee.

Mr. Mason earned his B.A. from Muskingum College and his J.D. from Capital Law School. Long committed to public service, he was elected to the Zanesville City Council shortly after college graduation and, at the age of 26, was elected mayor of the city of Zanesville, where he oversaw natural gas and cable negotiations, water and sewer infrastructure development and other public works projects.
