The Lyoness Child & Family Foundation Mourns Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

The Lyoness Child & Family Foundation expresses its sadness about the death of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. The Foundation only recently implemented a school project supported by the Nobel Peace Prize winner and his family

GRAZ, Austria--()--Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela died on December 5, 2013 in Pretoria at the age of 94. The Nobel Peace Prize winner of the year 1993 fought against social injustice as well as for equality of South Africa’s black population and for the end of apartheid all his life. He spent 27 years in prison because of his commitment. After he had been released in 1990 he made a major contribution to ending apartheid and was elected South Africa’s first black president in 1994.

The Lyoness Child & Family Foundation together with the Child & Family Foundation South Africa started a school project in the name of Mandela in 2012. In his home village, Qunu, the Lyoness Foundations rebuilt the dilapidated original school building. Additionally, modern teaching materials and a complete school kit had been provided for each of the 228 pupils. The new “Nelson Mandela No-Moscow Primary School” was opened in the middle of March this year.

The Foundation expresses its sadness about the project patron’s death. “We mourn a great statesman and an impressive personality. We are extremely proud to have been allowed to realise the project in Nelson Mandela’s name,” says Nina Passegger, Director Child & Family Foundation.

Also, Hubert Freidl, CEO Lyoness, emphasizes the importance of this project: “With the newly constructed school we were able to make a long-desired dream of Nelson Mandela come true. He grew up in Qunu and had always wished for the children of his home village to receive good education.”
