mopay Integrates Automatic Landline Billing as a Fall-Back to an Empty Prepaid Card

MUNICH--()--mopay, a global leader in innovative payment solutions for online merchants, today announced its successful experience with a landline billing fall-back option designed for consumers who have forgotten to top-up their prepaid card credit. By integrating this innovative feature, merchants can significantly increase the conversion rate by allowing the user to conveniently switch the payment method within the same transaction session. The solution is automatically integrated within the mopay API.

mopay provides direct mobile carrier, landline and broadband billing options for online merchants in more than 80 countries through its industry-leading payment platform. Direct mobile carrier billing is the largest part of mopay’s business: Using only their mobile numbers consumers are able to pay without entering a credit card number or confidential bank details. Landline billing was added to mopay’s product portfolio in 2010. Since then this payment option has become available in more than 30 countries worldwide, and it now has a total reach of close to one billion consumers. Instead of entering a mobile number, consumers simply call a phone number, and the transaction is charged to their landline bill.

Mobile billing is easy, quick and safe – but what happens, when there is not enough credit on the prepaid card? For a long time, this was the end of the transaction process, and the merchant lost the customer. With mopay landline fall-back, mopay developed an option to give the user a second path: When the transaction is being cancelled for any reason, the user is informed instantly with a pop-up window and can decide to switch to landline billing. The requested amount of money will then be billed to the consumer’s landline account.

“Landline fall-back is the perfect add-on for every merchant who wants to improve the conversion rate without effort,” said Martin Spitzer, product manager at mopay. “The only requirement for mopay landline fall-back is that merchants need to activate this option from the mopay API.”

“Our mopay landline fall-back technology offers great advantages for both consumers and merchants. Not only is it incredibly easy to integrate landline billing when the merchant already offers direct mobile carrier billing,” explained Ingo Lippert, CEO at mopay. ”With the addition of landline fall-back, the merchant attains a higher pay-out by improving conversion rates and also satisfies customers, who don’t have to cancel a transaction due to a lack of credit on their prepaid cards.”
