SAN DIEGO--()--Today, BAE Systems employees in San Diego presented Operation Homefront – California with new bicycles, safety helmets, and toys for distribution to military families across the San Diego area during the holiday season.

BAE Systems’ employees in Rancho Bernardo raised money for the annual bike drive through personal contributions and fundraising events. This year, employees raised enough money to donate 500 new bikes and helmets. Employees also participated in Operation Homefront’s 2013 Holiday Toy Drive, which collects donated toys and gift cards to distribute to the families of junior service members.

“Our nation’s active military and military veterans have made tremendous sacrifices on our behalf,” said Jordan Becker, vice president and general manager of Geospatial Intelligence and ISR at BAE Systems. “This effort is something our employees love to participate in because it benefits the same men and women of the Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard whom they support and work with every day.”

Through the annual bike drive, which began in 1995, employees have raised funds to donate more than 9,000 bicycles for San Diego service members and their families. In addition to employee donations, Huffy® provided discounts on the bicycles and tricycles and Bell® offered the helmets at a reduced cost for the effort.
