Research and Markets: Quarterly Food Retail Growth Q3 - Sales and volume growth trends in 29 European countries and 5 regions

DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/z4d35f/quarterly_food) has announced the addition of the "Quarterly Food Retail Growth Q3 - Sales and volume growth trends in 29 European countries and 5 regions" report to their offering.

Q3 2013 was one of the very best growth quarters for food retailing in Europe since 2007, signaling what may be the start of a recovery across the regions of Europe. Almost all countries now show sales growth, and a majority of countries also show volume/unit growth.

If this positive trend continues for the next one or two quarters, we are witnessing the most important shift in business environment since the crisis of 2008/2009.

The EU as a whole registered a +3% sales growth in nominal terms, and a +0.1% volume growth. The modest volume growth overall is mainly due to certain Southern regions still performing very poorly, although they are now performing less poorly than previously.

For the Nordic region Q3 2013 seems to possibly signal a return to the healthy 3% sales and 1% volume growth level of the "bounce-back year" 2010, and the pre-crisis era. Here, a particularly positive development is Denmark, which is returning to volume growth after many years of decline.

Sweden on the other hand has had a modest but stable growth development for some time, but ran in to problems in Q2 2013. The Q3 figures point to a resumption of growth in Sweden however.

In Norway, growth is returning to very strong levels. Central Europe is showing the strongest growth of all the main European regions, led by a very positive recovery in Germany. Eastern Europe is now also showing growth but on a more modest scale. The recovery is significant however as it is breaking a long period of declines.

Southern Europe is seeing a clear recovery effect in Q3 2013, with nominal sales levels returning to slight growth, and with volume declines substantially reduced in many places. Amongst the major nations of Europe, France and Germany are noteworthy for their strong Q3 recoveries.
