BREAKING NEWS: Hot Topic Turns Black Friday into “Burgundy Friday”

Legendary Anchorman Ron Burgundy kicks off the season with “Burgundy Friday,” only at Hot Topic, in anticipation of the upcoming film “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif.--()--Hot Topic announced “kind of a big deal” to celebrate Ron Burgundy’s return to the big screen in Paramount Pictures’ “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” in theaters this holiday: It will rename Black Friday after America’s legendary news anchor – an honor never bestowed on any individual. Ever. This year, Hot Topic will break with tradition and celebrate Burgundy Friday during the busiest shopping day – and weekend – of the year.

Hot Topic will roll out Burgundy Friday and the holiday season with an array of products from both the first Anchorman film and “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” including exclusive T-shirts, talking key chains, the classic Sex Panther cologne and the sure-to-sell-out 13” Ron Burgundy action figure.

"'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' will be huge this holiday season so we wanted to support the release with a campaign worthy of Ron Burgundy,” said Cindy Levitt, Vice President and General Merchandise Manager at Hot Topic. “We’re excited to kick off the holiday shopping season with Burgundy Friday – and to be a destination for fan-favorite Anchorman products just in time for the new film.”

“There really is no hotter topic right now than Ron Burgundy, and he’s so popular that Hot Topic has renamed the biggest shopping day of the year,” commented LeeAnne Stables, President of Consumer Products and head of Worldwide Marketing Partnerships at Paramount Pictures. “That makes Hot Topic the perfect headquarters for fans to gear up now for fun when the film releases.”

Hot Topic will host a series of online initiatives including a sweepstakes where the winner will receive a private screening of “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

With the 70's behind him, San Diego's top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), returns to the news desk in "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues." Also back for more are Ron’s co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), man on the street reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner) - All of whom won’t make it easy to stay classy… while taking New York and the nation’s first 24-hour news channel by storm. Produced by Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Written by Will Ferrell & Adam McKay. Directed by Adam McKay.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” opens in theaters everywhere this holiday.
