WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Allison+Partners, a global communications firm, today announced a public relations partnership with the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the nation’s greatest springtime celebration and one of the region’s most popular tourist events. In an ongoing commitment to support the local community, Allison+Partners’ Washington, D.C. office will spearhead a communications program to support and raise awareness of the Festival’s inaugural “Sing into Spring” vocal talent competition.
The brainchild of Festival president Diana Mayhew, “Sing into Spring” gives local solo and group performers the opportunity to showcase their talent through an online submission process. Up to twenty finalists will be chosen to perform live in front of a celebrity panel in January, with up to four final artists being hand-picked to perform in the 2014 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade® on April 12, 2014. Applications are currently being accepted through November 15, 2013.
“The ultimate goal of the ‘Sing into Spring’ competition is to shine a spotlight on the talent in the greater metropolitan area and demonstrate the Festival’s commitment to local residents,” said Diana Mayhew, president of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. “By teaming with Allison+Partners, we’re better able to reach out to the community, encourage participation and increase interest in the springtime celebration. Allison+Partners has an impressive history of producing great results for its partners, and we look forward to working with them to kick off what we hope will become a time-honored tradition for years to come.”
Each year, the National Cherry Blossom Festival attracts more than 1.5 million local and international visitors to honor the cherry blossom trees gifted to Washington, D.C. by Tokyo more than a century ago. Throughout the 25-day celebration held from March 20 – April 13, 2014, the Festival organizes a variety of community events to commemorate the friendship between the two nations, including the Blossom Kite Festival, Pink Tie Party fundraiser, and the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade®.
“The National Cherry Blossom Festival is an incredible event that demonstrates the beauty of culture, creativity and community – values that we always aim to incorporate into our work with partners and clients,” said Jonathan Heit, president and senior partner at Allison+Partners. “By partnering on ‘Sing into Spring’, our agency can help share the importance of these principles with the broader community and further illustrate why the Festival is one of D.C.’s most anticipated events of the year.”
