SmartRG Delivers New DSL Bonding Gateway to Help Drive 100Mbps Services and Beyond

SmartRG enables Service Providers to offer enhanced services, boost bandwidth, and reach more customers with new Bonded xDSL platform

VANCOUVER, Wash.--()--SmartRG, a leading developer of broadband access customer premises equipment, today announced the immediate availability of the lead product in its DoubleNickel™ family, the SR550n Broadband Residential Gateway. The SR550n combines the benefits of field-proven VDSL2 and ADSL2+ technology with ITU-T standards-compliant loop bonding technology to enable service providers to offer revenue-generating services, such as multi-stream HD IPTV with ultra-high-speed Internet access, over a 2-pair bonded VDSL2 (or ADSL2+) connection.

Bonded xDSL enables service providers to combine multiple xDSL lines into a single, aggregated data connection, even when each line supports different data rates. The DoubleNickel™ SR550n is among the first in the industry to deliver ITU-T G.998.1/998.2 compliant ATM/PTM bonding with ITU-T G.993.5 Vectoring and ITU-T G.998.4 Physical Layer Retransmission (aka G.inp). Bonded xDSL speeds of up to 200Mbps downstream are attainable with the SR550n.

“Service Providers have been anxiously waiting for a next-generation platform that combines xDSL bonding with vectoring and physical layer retransmission, to deliver on their plans for pushing more bandwidth and services into homes and businesses. That wait is over. With the general availability of the SR550n, SmartRG continues to forge a path of innovation and excellence in design and customer responsiveness,” said Jeff McInnis, SmartRG President and CEO.

Additionally, the DoubleNickel SR550n provides a high-power (950 milliwatt) 802.11n Access Point, making Wi-Fi “dead-spots” a thing of the past.

“Wi-Fi is no longer just a nice-to-have feature in a Residential Gateway. With the proliferation of mobile computing devices, Wi-Fi is now a critical factor to any home or business. Our Service Provider customers tell us one of their biggest customer support challenges is in supporting Wi-Fi services, due in large part, to lack of signal throughout their customers’ home or place of business. The DoubleNickel SR550n attacks this challenge head-on, by integrating high-power amplifiers with intelligent antenna design and selecting only the highest-quality components, which deliver excellent receiver sensitivity, ensuring signals from distant, battery-operated Wi-Fi clients are received and connectivity is assured,” remarked SmartRG Vice President of Product Development, David La Cagnina.
