LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In an effort to better understand the couponing tendencies and preferences of consumers, Tada.com commissioned a study of 8,858 online shoppers, who were surveyed immediately post-transaction from 1,356 retailers.
"The results were both surprising and very positive for retailers," says David Weinrot, CMO of Shopzilla, Tada's parent company. "We found that while coupons don't erode the full-price base of shoppers, they absolutely compel impulse shopping and drive consumers to routinely spend more."
In addition, the study also found that the retailers dramatically control the distribution of coupons, as e-mails and newsletters from the brands shoppers love were cited as the primary source for finding deals: Social media finished last.
"We were also surprised to discover that very few consumers who purport to like coupons actually bothered to look for one before checking out," adds Weinrot. "Only 25% of these pro-coupons shoppers checked for a deal."

Tada.com, which launched earlier this month, offers coupons from more than 6,000 retailers. To minimize customer frustration, Tada lists when a coupon was last used by a verified online buyer, ensuring that the deal content is always fresh.
