CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Capitalizing on the increased consumer demand for flexible, self-service offerings, Graeter’s has partnered with OpenMotion to utilize their patent pending technology and unique gift card business model to give Graeter’s customers a distinctive and rewarding gift card purchasing experience. The Connectnow™ kiosk empowers Graeter’s customers to make their gift cards memorable by personalizing with a message directly on the card.
The OpenMotion kiosk was responsible for increasing the number of gift cards sold by 22% and the average gift card denomination by 51%.
“We knew we were providing consumers with a better experience by allowing them to personalize their Graeter’s gift cards in a self-service environment,” said Richard Graeter, President and CEO of Graeter’s. “But we were absolutely amazed with the incredible lift in gift cards sales it provided.”
Personalized gift card messages are about the same length as a tweet and printed right on the gift card. The kiosk provides numerous design choices and printing options to afford the customer the ability to create a unique and memorable gift card with their own personal touch for their recipient. The printed gift card is part of a package that includes an artist-designed, premium gift cardholder that matches the unique design elements of the gift card as a complete gift card package.
Graeter’s expects the personalized gift card kiosk to help improve its service levels by offering the consumer a superior product that is uniquely their own. The kiosk will alleviate the need for its guests to stand in the same line as those waiting to get their ice cream while allowing Graeter’s associates the time to better serve their guests. OpenMotion manages all aspects of the gift card kiosk program including hardware, software, stocking, and maintenance.
The personalized gift card service is now available in the Deerfield, West Chester, Kenwood, Hyde Park, Tri-County, Ft. Mitchell, Western Hills, Northgate, Cherry Grove, and Fountain Square store locations.
“Cincinnatians love Graeter’s and love to give it as a gift- our kiosks will allow consumers to add their own personal touch and make their gift cards more memorable,” said Rob Deubell, President OpenMotion.
The Connectnow kiosk addresses several key areas of gift card consumer experience at Graeter’s and more broadly throughout the retail industry. A recent Harris Interactive survey commissioned by OpenMotion found that 2.5 times as many consumers indicated they would buy a gift card they could personalize to those who said they would not. This finding is consistent with the #1 reason cited for not buying a gift card, “that it may be perceived as an impersonal gift.”
“When we give a gift we want it to be personal and meaningful to the recipient,” said Deubell.
Connectnow personalized gift cards come with a premium artist designed holder that matches the gift card designs, similar to a greeting card but made specifically to hold and showcase the gift card. Within the gift card industry cards typically come with an accompanying placard, however consumers indicated that they want to package their gift card differently when presenting to the recipient. Over 80% of consumers indicate that they purchase additional packaging like a greeting card or gift bag when giving a gift card.
