MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Foundation Capital today announced that Mitali Pattnaik, a former product and marketing lead at Twitter and Google, has joined the firm as an Entrepreneur-in- Residence (EIR). At Foundation Capital Pattnaik will focus on building a new consumer-focused company. While still in the early stages of concept development, she will explore several areas of interest, including education, mobile and collaborative consumption.
“Foundation Capital’s excellent reputation with entrepreneurs and its success in helping build world-class consumer brands like Netflix made it the logical first stop on my startup journey,” said Pattnaik. “The Foundation team’s vast network and extensive operational experience will be invaluable in my new endeavor.”
Prior to joining Foundation Capital, Pattnaik was a lead on the revenue product team at Twitter where she managed a number of Twitter’s ad products and oversaw the company’s social commerce strategy. Prior to Twitter, she was a consumer products lead for Google where she built Google Offers and scaled it for 10 cities. Pattnaik was among the first pioneers in social and freemium gaming at Electronic Arts, launching the virtual goods stores for EA’s flagship Sims franchise, and at PlayFirst, where she led the company’s social gaming business. She also served as a senior marketing manager for Yahoo! where she oversaw worldwide marketing for Yahoo! Video, Yahoo! Search and Yahoo! Answers. Pattnaik began her career at Microsoft as a product manager for Microsoft Office.
“Mitali’s impressive consumer background, deep expertise working with some of the world’s top technology companies and strong leadership ability make her an ideal fit for Foundation Capital,” said Ashu Garg, general partner at Foundation Capital. “The purpose of the Foundation Capital EIR program is to bring in entrepreneurs who can provide a unique perspective to the firm and Mitali’s successful track record of building and growing businesses made her the perfect candidate. We are extremely excited to have her.”
This marks the fourth high-profile addition to the Foundation Capital team in 2013. Earlier this year, the firm added three partners: Anamitra Banerji, former Twitter product manager; Adit Singh, formerly of Comcast Ventures; and Jonathan Ehrlich, a former director of marketing at Facebook.
