MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AddThis today announced the appointment of Richard Harris as Chief Executive Officer of the company. Harris succeeds Ramsey McGrory, who held the role of CEO since October 2011. McGrory will now serve in an advisory role to the company.
Harris joined AddThis as Chief Financial Officer earlier this year and brings a wealth of knowledge from nearly two decades with technology start-ups.
“AddThis tools are now used by millions of websites around the world to help streamline social engagement and analytics,” said Richard Harris, CEO, AddThis. “I am thrilled to be leading such an innovative company during its next phase of growth.”
“In the past few years, the company has grown its footprint significantly to over 14 million domains using AddThis tools,” said McGrory. “We've also diversified AddThis solutions from simple sharing tools to content engagement tools across mobile, tablet and desktop, and I look forward to seeing the company grow even further as Rich takes on the leadership role.”
Harris has significant experience as both an operator and investor of technology companies. He was a key member of the team that spun-out Cronos Integrated Microsystems from a non-profit research institution in 1999. Harris then went on to be the founder and General Partner of Mt. Weather Capital, a private equity firm with a portfolio of profitable and growing services companies, and founder of RedShift Ventures, a $220MM venture capital firm focused on early stage technology companies.
“Rich brings a unique perspective to the role of CEO,” said Hooman Radfar, chairman and co-founder, AddThis. “His strong venture capital and technology start-up experience will guide AddThis to new ground as it works to expand its product portfolio to include unique, innovative solutions that will help advertisers and publishers maximize content engagement.”
Harris is a passionate and active member of the entrepreneurial community and a former Clinical Professor for the R.H. Smith School of Business. He received an M.B.A and J.D. from the University of Maryland and a B.A. in Economics from Denison University.
