SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--More than four hundred Ernst & Young LLP professionals left their spreadsheets at the office to volunteer throughout the community on Friday, Sept. 20. It’s all part of the firm’s national “EY Connect Day” which gives employees the day off so that they can give back to their communities.
“We truly appreciate EY’s ongoing commitment to make San Jose an even better place to live, work and raise a family,” said San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, who issued the proclamation recognizing September 20, 2013, as EY Day in San Jose. “I’d like to thank EY’s employees for donating their time and talents in support of local nonprofit organizations that promote education, entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability.”
Projects this year included the “Let’s Go Green” initiative at Children's Discovery Museum in which children explored what they can do to make the world a healthier place for people and other living things.
Other projects took place at the Boys and Girls Club of Silicon Valley, Del Mar High School, InnVision Shelter (Menlo Park Family House and San Jose Commercial Street Inn), the Humane Society of Silicon Valley, Second Harvest Food Bank, NFTE Bay Area and Save the Bay.
“At EY, ‘Building a better working world’ is our purpose. EY Connect Day is an opportunity to serve this objective on a large scale,” said Kailesh Karavadra, EY Office Managing Partner in San Jose. “Having high performing teams helps us deliver exceptional service to our clients. Spending a day together in service to others helps create that foundation, and gives us a valuable way to connect, to communicate and to work together toward a shared goal.”
Each year, Ernst & Young professionals throughout the West volunteer more than 19,000 hours of their time to nonprofit organizations in their communities.
