PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MISSION POSSIBLE KIDS has been selected as the one nonprofit to represent Texas in the fifth annual Tom’s of Maine “50 States for Good”™ community giving program and now has a chance to win $10,000 to instill the joy of service in thousands of elementary-aged kids in Texas and beyond. Through a public vote at 50StatesforGood.com now through October 15, supporters can help bring the funding to Texas with the simple click of a mouse.
The “50 States for Good” program seeks to uncover nonprofits that address community needs and engage volunteers to get the work done. Texas-based MISSION POSSIBLE KIDS (MPK) engages kids in TOP SECRET missions to change the world, such as preparing care packages, disaster relief supplies, and heartfelt gifts for people in need, mostly other kids, in local communities and worldwide. In the “doing,” the way kids learn best, children discover their own potential and the impact they can make in the world. To date 15,000 elementary-aged MPK “agents” have helped over 1,500,000 people worldwide.
“A win would be huge as we prepare to launch MISSION POSSIBLE KIDS into elementary schools in 2014, opening the door for thousands of students to be involved,” said Kathy Meadows, Founder of MISSION POSSIBLE KIDS. “As the only nonprofit representing Texas, we hope everyone will show their Texas can-do spirit and vote for us every day between now and October 15.”
Nonprofit finalists from each state were selected from a pool of 1,000 nominations by an independent panel of judges, including star of “The Vampire Diaries” and nonprofit founder Ian Somerhalder; Matt Petronzio, assistant features editor covering social good for Mashable.com; Huffington Post columnist Lisa M. Dietlin; and Sam Davidson, president of Cool People Care.
“50 States for Good makes it easy for anyone to have an impact and directly help organizations that are bringing goodness to communities in a variety of creative and inspiring ways,” said Susan Dewhirst, goodness programs manager at Tom’s of Maine.
