NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Magpies Bake Shop, creator of flaky, jam-filled tarts based in New York’s East Village, announces their OpenSky Marketplace debut on October 1, 2013, and their e-commerce site launch at www.magpiesnyc.com. For the first time, Magpies tarts are available to an expanded audience as they begin shipping from NYC to anywhere in the United States.
Magpies Bake Shop started as a weekly bake sale on a stoop in Brooklyn. Founder Meghan Ritchie began honing her pastry techniques in her home kitchen, making delicious tarts for hungry Brooklyn commuters passing by on their way to the train.
Meghan and Magpies Bake Shop partner Paul Jones worked to expand Magpies from their brownstone’s stoop to local food markets such as Smorgasburg, as well as Whole Foods’ New York City locations, and select specialty stores and cafes. As word spread about the flaky, flavorful tarts, Meghan and Paul moved operations from their apartment to a larger pastry kitchen of a local restaurant.
Magpies Bake Shop provides desserts for local weddings and cultural events, including Celebrate Brooklyn’s opening night gala. To meet the growing love for Magpies tarts, once again Meghan and Paul found the need to move to a larger commercial kitchen in New York’s East Village.
In Magpies’ new space, Meghan and Paul are increasing production of their tasty tart creations to meet the rising demand for their pastries. “We’re thrilled to begin sharing our treats with customers across the country,” Ritchie said. “Our pastries have been such a huge hit in local and neighborhood markets in the New York area, we hope others will love them as well.”
