NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Thompson Hine LLP is pleased to announce that Maranda E. Fritz has joined its New York office as a partner in the firm’s Business Litigation practice, where she will focus on white collar crime, internal investigations and securities litigation. Growth of its White Collar Criminal Practice is a priority at Thompson Hine, and the addition of Fritz advances this goal. Fritz, who is known for aggressive and effective defense of criminal and regulatory matters, has been lead counsel in numerous federal jury trials and briefed and argued more than a dozen cases in federal and state courts in the past several years alone.
In recent years, Fritz has secured an impressive number of successes for her clients, including helping to establish precedent-setting guidelines in search and seizure law while obtaining the dismissal of an indictment against a CEO in a criminal securities fraud case, leading an 11-month criminal antitrust trial that resulted in acquittal of all charges, and obtaining the dismissal, during trial, of a federal securities indictment based on prosecutorial misconduct, later affirmed by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Fritz, who has more than 20 years’ experience in private practice, served for nine years as a senior investigative counsel and prosecutor in the New York County District Attorney’s Office Frauds Bureau, where she was responsible for all facets of investigation and prosecution of complex white collar criminal matters.
“Adding Maranda to our dedicated team of lawyers handling internal investigations and white collar matters will greatly benefit our clients,” said Katherine D. Brandt, partner-in-charge of the firm’s New York office. “Her experience as both a prosecutor and defense attorney gives her a comprehensive understanding of the complex issues involved in white collar cases and enables her to obtain the best possible results for those accused of criminal or regulatory violations. Her impressive trial track record in state and federal courts, zealous advocacy and the favorable results she has been able to secure for clients further strengthens our deep bench of successful white collar practitioners.”
Fritz’s practice places particular emphasis in the areas of securities fraud, insurance and health care fraud, and she has extensive experience in both trial and investigative matters pertaining to financial crimes. Her clients include corporations, executives and employers in the financial and brokerage industries, and she has successfully defended a range of clients in discussions with prosecuting agencies, at trial and, if necessary, on appeal.
“I was attracted to Thompson Hine’s thriving corporate securities practice and strong white collar criminal and internal investigations practice,” said Fritz. “I was impressed with the skillset, range of practice areas and client service focus of the firm. I very much look forward to working with this growing group.”
Fritz is the latest to join the firm’s expanding New York office, which recently hired several top-tier lateral partners. Her addition follows the recent arrivals of Jonathan Ross, Karen M. Kozlowski, William H. Schrag and Peter J. Gennuso, who joined the New York office in the Commercial & Public Finance, Real Estate, Bankruptcy and Corporate Transactions & Securities practices, respectively.
Since 2010, Fritz has been selected by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® and The New York Area’s Best Lawyers® in the category of Criminal Defense: White-Collar. From 1996 to 2001, she served as an adjunct professor at Cardozo School of Law, where she taught Prosecution of Complex White Collar Criminal Cases.
