SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that Larry Ward, a partner in the firm’s Corporate Group, has been named one of Puget Sound Business Journal’s 2013 40 Under 40.
Mr. Ward is an international business attorney concentrating his practice on U.S. national security law, international trade law and licensing and franchise law. He helps government contractors, technology, manufacturing, retail, service, hospitality, biotech and other companies involved in international trade understand and comply with various complicated U.S. regulatory schemes including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the U.S. embargo and economic sanctions regimes and the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). He also represents foreign buyers and U.S. targets navigate filings with the inter-agency Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). He helps clients build and refine compliance programs, train employees, classify products for export purposes, apply for export licenses from the U.S. Government when necessary, structure internal safeguards for dealing with classified federal government information, internally investigate potential violations of the law and disclose violations to the U.S. Government when something has gone wrong. He also drafts and negotiates agency and distribution agreements, manufacturing agreements, intellectual property licenses, franchise agreements and other commercial contracts.
In addition to his legal practice, he serves on the boards of Treehouse and the Washington Attorneys Assisting Community Organizations and on the Saint Joseph School Parent Association Board. Mr. Ward is also active in many organizations such as the King County Bar Association, Pacific Northwest Defense Coalition, Orange County Aerospace and Defense Forum, Notre Dame Club of Greater Seattle and the American Refugee Committee.
Each year, the Puget Sound Business Journal’s editors sift through hundreds of nominations — more than 400 this year — and choose 40 leaders younger than 40 who already have accomplished much in their professional lives while giving back to the community. Several of this year’s honorees are already on their second or even third successful career, while helping to launch and lead nonprofit community groups as well.
“Larry is a preeminent lawyer with an international reputation and has built a thriving practice in the Seattle area,” noted Ken Cutler, Managing Partner of Dorsey & Whitney. “We are extremely proud of his achievements and of this recognition.”
