NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--()--Christopher Cox, President of Boston-based Bingham Consulting LLC and a leading expert in corporate governance, has been selected as the new Chairman of the Board for the Forum for Corporate Directors (FCD), a non-profit business organization committed to increasing the effectiveness of directors, CEOs and senior level executives. Mr. Cox, whose background includes two decades of public service in the White House, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and Congress, was approved as Board Chairman at the FCD Board of Directors meeting today, along with the other members of the 2013-2014 FCD officers and directors. He succeeds John Della Grotta, a partner in the international law firm of Paul Hastings, who will remain on the board as Immediate Past Chair.

“Christopher Cox brings unique and valuable insight, knowledge and experience, and he personally embodies the essence of the Forum for Corporate Directors,” said John Della Grotta, immediate past chairman. “His leadership and commitment to our mission and deep knowledge of Orange County will be a great benefit to our members.”

Prior to his career in Washington, Mr. Cox was a partner in the international law firm of Latham & Watkins and leader of the Corporate Department in the firm's Orange County office. He also served as a member of the faculty at Harvard Business School, where he taught federal income tax. In 1986, he joined the White House staff as legal counsel to President Ronald Reagan.

At the end of the Reagan administration, Mr. Cox was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he became the fifth-ranking House leader, Chairman of the House Policy Committee, and Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security. In 2005 he was appointed Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, where he led an aggressive enforcement program that achieved the agency's first billion dollar settlements and brought a record-breaking number of cases against insider trading and foreign corrupt practices. He also set the SEC on a path to greater integration with international securities regulators and accounting standard setters.

Since 2009, Mr. Cox has been a partner in the international law firm of Bingham McCutchen LLP, and President of Bingham Consulting LLC, a global business advisory firm. He serves on six corporate and non-profit boards, including southern California-based Newport Corporation (NEWP), a global leader in photonics technology, and the University of Southern California.

"The Forum for Corporate Directors has benefitted greatly from the strong, strategic management and vision of John Della Grotta during his four years as Chairman, and we are all thankful for his tireless efforts," said Mr. Cox. "I look forward to working with John and the FCD board to facilitate the continued growth, development, and effectiveness of today's top executives and directors."

The Forum for Corporate Directors is committed to helping directors, CEOs and senior level executives anticipate important issues facing companies in today's global economy, by presenting peer-to-peer forums to share ideas and key strategies.
