Pacifica Engineering Announces New Assembly Facility in Everett, WA as Part of MTorres Expansion of US Operations

2012 acquisition of Boeing supplier Pacifica Engineering and USA headquarters relocation to Puget Sound solidify Spanish company’s footprint in North American aerospace market

LE BOURGET, France--()--MTorres, a privately-owned Spanish supplier of highly sophisticated automated equipment to the aerospace and paper industries for over 35 years, today announced that Pacifica Engineering, Inc. will open a new assembly and integration facility in Everett, WA in July. Since acquiring Pacifica, a fast-growing Bothell-based aerospace tooling maker in 2012, the two companies have moved quickly to grow their competitive strength in the booming global aerospace marketplace.

“The assembly facility will provide further capability for design and build of tooling and machines in North America, giving Pacifica and MTorres customers a full turn-key solution to their needs,” said Scott Dean, President and General Manager of Pacifica. “We are embracing this opportunity for growth as we continue to face design, schedule and cost challenges within the aerospace market.”

“Congratulations to Pacifica Engineering and MTorres on choosing Everett, Snohomish County for this impressive expansion of North American operations,” said Governor Jay Inslee. “It’s more evidence of the quality and competitiveness of Washington State’s aerospace sector, which now numbers 1256 companies and over 131,000 of the most skilled workers in the world. Your success here will only help strengthen and build on a history of leadership in aviation that spans nearly 100 years.”

According to Dean, “The next natural step for us was to expand on our capabilities by launching a new assembly and integration facility. We will be in operation in July of this year, and will be performing the assembly, test, inspection and delivery of MTorres machines, as well as turn-key tooling and equipment.”

Pacifica has been named among Boeing’s Performance Excellence Award winners the past four years in a row by maintaining a top composite performance rating – one of 153 suppliers worldwide to achieve the highest Gold status in 2012. Another major customer is Bell Helicopter.

MTorres has the distinction of being one of only seven 2012 Platinum Supplier companies to Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., an award recognizing dedication to cost-reduction initiatives, delivery and quality performance and willingness to partner with Spirit for overall improvement in value. MTorres is also a significant supplier for Boeing, and EADS, the parent of Airbus.

Dean said that MTorres looked throughout the U.S. for the right partner before finding a match with Pacifica. With this new plant, they will achieve capability to do everything they do in Spain in the U.S., including assembling the large machines that produce horizontal stabilizers and other composite airplane parts. In February, MTorres relocated their US headquarters to Pacifica’s Bothell offices.

Pacifica has provided tool engineering and design/build services to the aerospace and defense industries since 1995. It is an AS9100C certified, and international Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) registered company. Pacifica provides composite and mechanical tool design, engineering services, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) stress analysis, simulation, and design for manufacture (DFM) through an experienced and highly qualified staff of 85 people, mainly engineers and project managers.

With two manufacturing facilities in Spain, and delegations in Germany and the U.S., MTorres now has a workforce of more than 550 people and maintains business lines in the aerospace, paper converting and wind energy sectors. The combined technologies and personnel will enhance the reach of product offering for both companies to cover most any aerospace manufacturing and assembly process.

The company is a market reference in the field of composite tape layup and fiber placement machines, large routing and drilling machines with flexible tooling systems, as well as automated assembly jigs that support the manufacturing and assembly processes of many aerospace programs around the world.

With the leadership of our Executive Teams and the hard work and dedication of employees throughout the world, the MTorres Group will not only remain a strong force but will continue to grow for many years to come,” said Dean.
