Post University Releases Adult Learner E-book With Proceeds Supporting the American Red Cross

Second edition of “The Adult Learner Survival Guide,” written by and for adult learners, is now available on Amazon.com

WATERBURY, Conn.--()--Post University today announced it has released the second edition of its successful e-book, “The Adult Learner Survival Guide: Wisdom, Inspiration, and Advice for Moms, Dads, Military Personnel, and Other Working Adults,” with all proceeds supporting the American Red Cross. “The Adult Learner Survival Guide” is now exclusively available on Amazon for a $1.99 donation to the charity.

“The Adult Learner Survival Guide” was born from Post University’s Advice to Your Former Self Facebook Contest, which asked adult learners on Facebook to share the advice they would give to themselves if they could start their college degree program all over again. The contest spurred hundreds of campus-based and online adult learners nationwide to share their stories of challenge, determination, and triumph. Post University compiled the 30 best stories into the first edition of “The Adult Learner Survival Guide.”

Thousands of adult learners have downloaded the first edition since Post released it in January 2013, and the University recognized the need to provide more of what readers have been craving: real advice from real adult learners to enlighten and inspire them on their educational paths. Included in the second edition are:

  • 10 more adult learner stories culled from Post’s Advice to Your Former Self Facebook Contest, creating a total of 40 stories packed with advice, motivation, support, and encouragement. These are stories adult learners can use to help balance their education with the rest of life's responsibilities to get the most out of a degree program.
  • 10 original adult learner cartoons created by Dave Blazek, internationally syndicated cartoonist and mastermind behind Post University’s popular cartoon series, “Ex Post Facto,” which attracts thousands of adult learners to Post’s blog every month. “The Adult Learner Survival Guide” features six of Blazek’s most popular comics from Post’s blog, plus four never-before-seen originals.
  • Some of the latest data, trends, and charts about the growing population of adult learners in the U.S., gathered from sources including the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), U.S. News, and National Student Clearinghouse Research Center. These statistics help tell the story of who America’s college students are today and who they will be in the coming years.

Most important, the second edition of “The Adult Learner Survival Guide” will support the Red Cross to assist in disaster relief efforts and give back to the communities where adult learners live and work. The Red Cross has been instrumental in fueling recovery operations in the aftermath of many recent national disasters and tragedies, including the Oklahoma tornado and Boston Marathon bombing.

“Adult learners are one of the most important populations in higher education today,” says Don Mroz, Provost & Dean of The Malcolm Baldrige School of Business at Post University. “In fact, enrollment of students who are 25 and older is expected to rise 20 percent between 2010 and 2020, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. This new edition of our e-book is our latest work in an ongoing effort to innovate better ways to meet adult learners’ needs and help them reach their educational and life goals. We hope this e-book provides even more of the practical advice adult learners need to succeed, packaged in a fun and memorable way.”

Mroz adds: “The rise of the adult learner population has placed many educational institutions under increasing pressure to improve their support of these students and remain relevant in the modern educational and economic landscape.”

Post University believes this effort involves components such as flexible scheduling and convenient online options; highly interactive online degree programs; career-oriented curricula; immediate, real-world applicability of course materials; and exceptional student support services.

“This model of higher education is based on supporting all students—on-ground and online adult learners, as well as traditional campus-based students—for a lifetime of learning,” says Mroz.

“The Adult Learner Survival Guide” Second Edition is available now on Amazon for Kindle, iPad, and other devices.
