NEW YORK--()--Metro has strengthened its leadership position as the most read free daily newspaper in New York, the latest Scarborough survey reveals. Every week, Metro reaches more than 1.5 million adults in New York in print and online – that’s more than 124,000 more people than amNewYork.

Over the past year, Metro gained nearly 100,000 daily readers – an increase of 15% year over year. Today, Metro reached an all-time record of 733,311 daily readers in New York.

“Thanks to our readers for making us the most popular free newspaper in New York,” Yggers Mortensen, Metro US Publisher and CEO said. ‘We continue to grow, innovate and find new ways to engage New Yorkers and deliver impact to advertisers both in print and online.”

Metro’s readership success can be attributed to continued distribution and editorial focus. In the past few months, Metro introduced more than 400 new distribution boxes in the streets of New York, re-launched its website, metro.us, refreshed the design of its print editions, and introduced new advertising formats and interactive features such as Blippar, the hot new augmented reality app.

Scarborough confirms Metro’s attractive demographics. Metro New York boasts an audience of 76% of employed readers and is 65% aged 18-49.
