TYSONS CORNER, Va.--()--Cardinal Bank (NASDAQ: CFNL) announced today that the Cardinal Bank Community Fund has awarded $1,000 to Kids In Need Distributors (“KIND”). Founded in 2012, KIND’s mission is to help feed hungry children in thirteen Montgomery County, Maryland public schools on weekends during the school year when the students don’t have access to the free and reduced meals programs. This school year, KIND will fill the backpacks of more than 600 schoolchildren with nutritious foods every Friday so these students can have their most basic needs met on the weekends. KIND also provides hygiene items to these families at the start of the school year. One hundred percent of all donations go toward food and commodities for families in need.

Cardinal Bank’s Rob Giraldi, Market Executive, and Ron Harriday, Bethesda Banking Center Manager, presented the check to Jeremy Lichtenstein, Founder of Kids In Need Distributors. The presentation was made at partnership school Rock Creek Forest Elementary School in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

“We are honored to support KIND and its efforts to address the most basic needs of our county’s children,” said Kate Carr, President, Cardinal Bank/Washington. “It is humbling to consider that in one of the nation’s wealthiest counties, 49,000 children are part of the Free and Reduced Meal Program, and may not have a single nutritious meal on the weekends. Studies have shown that childhood hunger relates directly to poor academic performance and behavioral issues. It is rewarding to know that our community grant investment will help make a difference, directly addressing the needs of childhood hunger, and hopefully contributing to academic success.”

Through its grant program, the Cardinal Bank Community Fund has benefited more than 70 local organizations and service programs since its inception, keeping sight of the Fund’s mission and deep commitment to giving back to the communities where we live, work, and raise our families. Cardinal employees also donate generously of their time to community organizations throughout the region.
