IRVING, Texas & GREENVILLE, S.C.--()--Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that its philanthropic organization, the Fluor Foundation, presented Clemson University a $1.5 million gift to create the Fluor-Clemson International Capital Projects Supply Chain Partnership endowment. This new partnership expands the scope and global geographic reach of previous Fluor-Clemson initiatives to support education, applied research and industry outreach for the capital project supply chain.

The new gift will fund additional applied research in broader global geographic areas of the world including India, China and the rest of the Asia-Pacific region. Clemson’s international Master of Engineering program in capital project supply chain and logistics within the industrial engineering department will benefit from the increased global reach by the addition of region-specific content to the curriculum and attracting a more diverse student population.

“The importance of the global supply chain has increased exponentially for engineering, procurement and construction companies since Fluor and Clemson first established the Fluor Endowed Chair of Supply Chain and Logistics at Clemson in 2007,” said David Seaton, chairman and CEO of Fluor Corporation, who also serves as chairman of the Fluor Foundation. “Six years later, with Fluor’s annual global procurement spend of $19 billion and with a majority of our project backlog overseas, this international expansion of the supply chain and logistics program is paramount for developing supply chain leaders of the future in our industry.”

As evidence, since the graduate program began in 2008, it has enrolled 230 students from 70 companies yielding 72 graduates.

“Fluor’s generous gift is an example of an innovative partnership between academia and industry that benefits not only students, but industries around the world,” said James F. Barker, president of Clemson University. “Clemson is positioned to have the premier program in supply chain logistics for the capital projects industry—not just nationally, but internationally.”

“We value our long-term relationship with Clemson and look forward to building upon our successful program that has provided an advanced logistics and supply chain education, applied research and industry outreach for hundreds of industry professionals in just six short years,” said Jim Scotti, senior vice president and chief procurement officer of Fluor Corporation. “Fluor is a leader in optimizing the global supply chain to deliver projects to our clients on time and within budget and this unique program’s expansion at Clemson will substantially benefit engineering, procurement and construction industry professionals and their careers.”

Scotti has global responsibility for Fluor’s 2,400-plus professionals in procurement, contract management, material management, sourcing, supplier quality, travel services, logistics and export control.

An official ceremony was held at Clemson’s campus today that included Fluor Chairman and CEO David Seaton, Clemson’s President Barker and other members of Fluor’s senior management team.

Fluor’s gifts to Clemson now total more than $5 million over the past several years. In 2007, Fluor provided Clemson with a $2 million gift that was matched with $2 million from the S.C. Centers of Economic Excellence (CoEE) program, now called SmartState, for a combined $4 million endowment that is being used to fund the Fluor Endowed Chair of Supply Chain Optimization and Logistics. The endowment paved the way to appoint Dr. Scott J. Mason as the inaugural Fluor Endowed Chair in 2010. Dr. Mason’s addition to Clemson’s faculty is highlighted by his world-class research talents in modeling large-scale systems and extensive industrial experience.

Fluor Corporation has a long history and commitment to investing in communities, non-profit organizations and educational institutions where it has operations and projects. Since Fluor Foundation's inception in 1952, Fluor has contributed more than $155 million to community and charitable projects around the world.
