MADISON, Wis.--()--Fiskars is pleased to announce its 2013 Project Orange Thumb grant and garden makeover recipients – community organizations across the U.S. and Canada who receive tools, materials and resources they need to create beautiful and productive community gardens. The following community organizations have been selected from among hundreds for the immediate impact Project Orange Thumb can make in their communities.
“This year we received more than 400 Project Orange Thumb applications from all over North America”
Fiskars’ 2013 U.S. garden makeover recipient is Southwest Community Gardens (a fiscal sponsorship recipient of Southwest Neighborhood Assembly) in Washington, D.C. Their proposed “Lansburgh Park Community Garden” was envisioned as a place for meditative gardening and community programming for veterans, youth and seniors. The new 8,000 square-foot garden will provide educational opportunities and give community members a place to reap the rewards of growing their own fresh food. Plans are underway for a one-day Fiskars Project Orange Thumb garden makeover in partnership with The Home Depot Foundation in July 2013.
“This year we received more than 400 Project Orange Thumb applications from all over North America,” said Fiskars President Paul Tonnesen. “We continue to be impressed by the number of strong applicants striving to better their communities with new gardens and sustainable food initiatives. We’re proud to support these well-deserving projects.”
In addition to the garden makeover recipient, the following 10 organizations were selected to receive garden grants consisting of $5,000 in cash and tools to help support their community garden goals.
