PointRF™ Expands SafeTSense™ Patient Behavioral Monitoring Portfolio at HiMSS13

Variable Wetness Sensing Wireless Diaper and smart event logic set new standard for patient behavior assessment and care optimization

HIMSS13

NEW YORK--()--PointRF Solutions LLC (PointRF), a leading developer of safety, security and business intelligence solutions for the healthcare industry, today announced that it will debut its Variable Wetness Sensing Wireless SafeTSense Diaper system at the HiMSS13 conference at booth #8547, beginning March 3, 2013 in New Orleans. As an integrated component of its NoWander® Safety and Security Platform for long-term and acute healthcare institutions, the SafeTSense Diaper system will set a new standard in the industry by alerting staff to wetness detected in real time, creating a shift from scheduled diaper changes to notification-driven diaper changes, as well as reducing the potential for patients to develop harmful sores.

PointRF Solutions’ wetness sensing diapers augment the SafeTSense product portfolio, which includes pressure-sensing bed, wheelchair, and floor pads that alert staff to emergencies, such as falls, as well as behavioral patterns, such as sleeplessness, which can be indicators of patient health issues. The new Variable Wetness Sensing Wireless SafeTSense Diaper communicates directly with the NoWander® Safety and Security Platform and Diaper Wetness Management platform services. Because the SafeTSense Diaper is fit and worn exactly as a traditional diaper, incorporating it into staff processes is seamless.

Designed to maximize safety and security, the enterprise-level open architecture NoWander® Safety and Security Platform is built upon modular mission critical infrastructure providing the highest reliability and scalability. Core and specialty services such as wander management, elopement prevention, asset management, and alarm and alert escalation streamline silos of processes and information to improve alignment across operations. Patients, staff and equipment are outfitted with active RFID tags that are configured with specific profiles to permit or prevent access to restricted areas based on factors such as time, day and authorized staff escort. Information collected by the system can be accessed at any time on enterprise dashboards and interactive display panels installed throughout a single facility or multiple ones, providing staff with immediate access to patient and equipment location and alarm event information.

“The job of both acute and long-term care facilities is to help get and keep patients healthy. Prevention of illness and injury is critical; however, it becomes especially difficult as the patient’s age increases,” said Richard Bauer, president and CEO of PointRF Solutions LLC. “As an example, the nursing home population by definition is more vulnerable to falls and bathroom accidents, giving dedicated caregivers a constant challenge. Our SafeTSense portfolio of solutions minimizes the risk of falls and increases the comfort of residents by providing healthcare professionals with useful, preventative information and alerts.”

PointRF’s SafeTSense solution leaps beyond traditional monitoring systems, which are designed to raise alarms solely for a small percentage of patients, and applies sensor technology to improve the entire patient population experience. PointRF SafeTSense products are designed to be deployed in every room, every bed and every wheelchair, delivering the most comprehensive sensor solution available. With granular monitoring and reporting on everything from how much patients toss and turn at night to the frequency with which they get out of bed, to what time they get up in the morning and more, SafeTSense gives staff the information necessary to better engage with patients and design proactive, superior care plans. By leveraging the NoWander® Safety and Security Platform scheduling tools, facilities can use SafeTSense products to automate, track and document activities such as bed turning and now diaper changes. Facilities rely on the data provided by the NoWander® Safety and Security Platform with SafeTSense to give patients and their families the piece of mind that comes with comprehensive monitoring and reporting. The demonstrations at HiMSS will highlight the value of monitoring the activity of all patients, not just high-risk or bedridden populations.

“NoWander® Safety and Security Platform and SafeTSense products are critical to helping our team keep patients safe, provide each individual with a superior level of care, and find new ways to operate more efficiently and cost effectively. The new SafeTSense Diaper will provide us with an even greater ability to accomplish our goal, saving an estimated 20 percent on supplies, and dramatically increasing staff productivity and resident satisfaction,” said Dan Muskin, administrator of Queens Center for Rehabilitation and Residential Health Care. “By monitoring and documenting every patient activity at the most granular level, we can better understand, assess, respond to, and ultimately predict, what will help each patient thrive under our care.”
