NCKU-EVA Air MoU to Benefit Aviation Students

TAINAN, Taiwan--()--National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, signed an agreement with EVA Airways Corporation (EVA Air), a Taiwan-based international airline, recently, pledging to offer internships and set up a program called Civil Aviation Engineering Program for university students to get hands-on training.

An internship agreement with EVA Air, the nation's second-largest airline, will provide NCKU students with greater insight into the industry, according to the university.

NCKU President Hwung Hwung-Hweng claimed, “The cooperation between NCKU and EVA Air is the best paradigm of the high-tech academia-industry collaboration.”

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Austin Cheng, President of EVA Air, and NCKU President Hwung, at a ceremony held at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics (DAA), NCKU, Feb. 19.

The university and EVA finalized an internship agreement that starts next summer. The internships will take 500 hours in total.

The aviation industry with great growth potential will be the focus for technology innovation, according to Hwung, adding that inviting experts from industry to benefit students in bridging the gap between theory and practice has been the endeavors for the university.

President Hwung was pleased to see the collaboration and pledged to pay more efforts on technology innovation and with which Taiwan’s economy may set to soar.

“EVA Airline is honored to cooperate with NCKU,” said EVA President Cheng who added that the program for civil aviation engineering is hands-on-oriented and interdisciplinary when NCKU takes the theory teaching and EVA Air takes the training.

Executive managers and engineers from EVA will teach in the program and EVA will provide scholarship and job opportunity for students who excel in the class, according to Dr. Chin-Hsiang Cheng, Chairman of DAA.

He said, the program consists of 36 credits of course work including Aviation Safety Management, Basic Flight Training, Aircraft Maintenance Training, Aircraft System and Operation, Introduction to Communication and Guidance, Electrical engineering, Electronics, Electronic Circuits, Aircraft Materials, Aircraft Structures, Aircraft Engines.

There are 2 courses open to NCKU students in this semester - Aviation Safety Management and Aircraft System and Operation - both instructed by experts from EVA, added Chairman Cheng.
