RALEIGH, N.C.--(Sensus, a leading utility infrastructure company today announced that its open standards-based FlexNetTM communication network has achieved MultiSpeak® 3.0 certification for interoperability with the popular iVUE® system from National Information Solutions Cooperative, or NISC®.)--
“For that reason, Sensus is an enthusiastic supporter of, and participant in, the establishment of industry standards such as MultiSpeak.”
The MultiSpeak specification is a standard developed under the guidance of National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) members that facilitates interoperability among multiple vendor software products used primarily by electric utilities. The new FlexNet MultiSpeak interface allows iVUE users to easily import data generated from wireless endpoints to existing enterprise applications for customer care and billing, accounting, engineering and e-commerce solutions, as well as customer portals. The FlexNet system supports multiple applications for water, gas and electric utilities including smart metering, distribution automation and demand response.
“Harnessing data from discrete systems into actionable intelligence is an important aspect of utility operations and interoperability is crucial,” said Matt Ferguson, Software Marketing Director at Sensus. “For that reason, Sensus is an enthusiastic supporter of, and participant in, the establishment of industry standards such as MultiSpeak.”
“Achieving certification with the MultiSpeak specification assures interoperability with Sensus FlexNet communication network and the iVUE system, which reduces the costs of implementation for distribution utilities,” said Bob Saint, NRECA’s MultiSpeak Program Manager.
“Since the inception of MultiSpeak, NISC has been a leader in developing integration that benefits our member utilities. We are excited about the MultiSpeak integration achieved between NISC and Sensus as this allows our customers to obtain single point of entry as well as advanced solutions such as automation of remote connects/disconnects and prepaid meter billing,” said Randy Schroder, NISC Senior Product Line Manager.
John Alls, Product Manager for NISC’s Meter Data Management System, stated “With the data exchanged via industry standard interfaces NISC and Sensus offer utilities affordable options that bring money saving automation to the customer care & billing, meter data management and outage management systems.
The NISC compatibility announcement coincides with the 2013 edition of TechAdvantage, the annual conference and exposition devoted to member-owned utilities. Visitors are invited to visit the Sensus booth # 409 in New Orleans to experience the company’s latest generation of FlexNet and discover its support for advanced applications– including meter data management, municipal lighting control and demand response – and distribution automation control applications featuring the PowerVista control system. Sensus will also showcase wireless telemetry and control devices supported over FlexNet including iCon® A and iPERL™ meters for electric and water applications.
