Big Fish Studios’ “Fetch”, A Soon-To-Be-Released Mobile Game, Featured at Seattle’s Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI)

First-of-its-Kind Museum Exhibit Documents the Creative Process of Developing a Video Game

“Fetch” is an animated adventure game that follows a boy’s mysterious journey to save his pet dog

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fetch, a one-of-a-kind arcade/adventure game in development at Big Fish Studios, is currently a featured exhibit at the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) in Seattle. Fetch is an imaginative adventure game about a boy who goes to great lengths to save his best friend, a dog named Bear, after he’s been captured by a mysterious fire hydrant. MOHAI's interactive installation invites visitors to participate in a number of development activities around Fetch; from testing the game in-progress to contributing their own unique game ideas. The exhibit documents the entire game development process - from the sketch of the original idea through to the final creation of the game.

“Our passion as a team is telling stories through unique experiences”

Developed in-house at Big Fish Studios, by the same team that created the award-winning Drawn series, Fetch redefines the adventure game genre by incorporating fun, quick-play arcade games along with brain-teasing puzzles and interactive storytelling – all in one interactive game experience. Set to release in the first half of 2013 on mobile platforms, Fetch was designed from the ground-up to take advantage of the unique gameplay attributes of touch screen devices.

“Our passion as a team is telling stories through unique experiences,” said Chris Campbell, game director and co-designer of Fetch. “Not everyone has a pet, but each of us understands that the bond between people and their pets can be incredibly deep. It’s this bond that allows us to tell a powerful story about a boy who sees his best friend taken, and his journey through this incredibly interesting world to try and save him."

As a nod to the museum installation, Fetch includes a museum level with exhibits ranging from prehistoric oceans to space travel, along with interactive gameplay and plenty of opportunities to earn achievements.

“We had always planned to have a museum level in the game, but when the partnership with MOHAI came to fruition, we took it a step further and incorporated artifacts from the real MOHAI into the game,” said Brian Thomson, Fetch Art Director. “Fetch delivers the look-and-feel of an interactive animated movie, with accessible gameplay that appeals to all levels of players and a timeless storyline that bridges generational gaps.”

MOHAI recently reopened on December 29th in the newly refurbished Naval Reserve Armory. The interactive Fetch exhibit was spearheaded by Creative Director Ann Farrington and Executive Director Leonard Garfield, with significant contributions from the Big Fish Studios team.

“An interactive game like Fetch is the perfect subject for a game development exhibit,” said Leonard Garfield, MOHAI Executive Director. “There are millions of people who play games but most aren’t privy to the process and details that go into actually creating a game. Along with the Pixar-like storytelling and production values in the game, the Fetch exhibit is both inspiring and educational. It was a delight to work with the Big Fish Studios team on this momentous exhibit and we are excited to host students from grade school through college to tour the exhibit and inspire future game makers.”

The “Building a Video Game” exhibit at MOHAI will be on display through September 2013. For more information visit Bigfishgames.com.
