OutcomesMTM is Selected by Blue Shield of California for Medication Therapy Management Services

Initiative designed to improve member health outcomes through direct consultations with community pharmacists.

DES MOINES, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Outcomes Incorporated (OutcomesMTM®) will provide Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services to Blue Shield of California members through community retail pharmacists beginning February 1, 2013.

Blue Shield of California members who meet enrollment criteria will be eligible for MTM services from trained community pharmacists. This service helps members achieve safe and effective use of their medications. Through the program, participating community pharmacists receive alerts about members who may have medication-related issues and gaps in therapy. Pharmacists then work with members to resolve medication issues and provide recommendations to physicians to help optimize the medication regimen.

Blue Shield of California members who are eligible for the program will receive a full menu of covered services, which include an annual Comprehensive Medication Review (CMR) and other Targeted Medication Reviews (TMRs) throughout the year. These medication reviews provide members the opportunity to meet with their community pharmacist for a review of their medication history, including prescription, over-the-counter and alternative medicine treatments, as well as to discuss targeted medication issues. The pharmacist will help detect and prevent medication-related issues, such as adverse effects and duplications in therapy.
