SONOMA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As the wine industry emerges from the economic doldrums of recent years, The Other Guys, a Sonoma-based wine and spirits company, reports record sales – again – in 2012.
Sales for the TOG portfolio last year were up more than 25% over 2011 totals, according to August Sebastiani, company president. In 2012, TOG shipped more than 300,000 cases of wine and spirits, while in 2011 it sold 239,000 cases. In the last two years alone, TOG case sales have jumped 76%. “It’s an impressive feat,” Sebastiani said.
“We strive to offer a portfolio of high quality wine and spirits that are uniquely positioned in the marketplace, and we pride ourselves on the ability to appeal to a wide array of consumers,” Sebastiani said. “But the credit here is due largely to our sales and support staff. Our team at TOG is dedicated and knows what consumers want. Our overriding goal is to over-deliver on quality.”
TOG’s leading seller was its Leese-Fitch wine brand, which includes Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel and Merlot. “These wines are all crafted in a food-friendly style, and since we are strong advocates of enjoying wine with a meal, this particular brand speaks right to our mission,” Sebastiani said. More than 150,000 cases of Leese-Fitch wine were sold in 2012.
Other leading wine brands were Pennywise, Plungerhead and Hey Mambo, followed by Moo Buzz and White Knight.
TOG also sold nearly 8000 cases of premium spirits in 2012. The company’s 35 Maple Street spirits division introduced Masterson’s 100% Straight Rye Whiskey in 2011, and added two more brands – Uncle Val’s Botanical Gin and Kirk & Sweeney Dominican Rum – in 2012. Sebastiani said the company is also targeting the release of small-batch bourbon later this year as TOG continues to extend its reach into the burgeoning craft spirits movement.
