NEW YORK CITY & LOS ANGELES--()--HOT 97 and Power 106 have launched the 2nd annual Who’s Next? Battle for the Best 2013 Hip-Hop talent showcase. Two rising Hip Hop artists – one from the east coast and one from the west coast – will compete at a public Kendrick Lamar concert in Austin on Friday, March 15, 2013 during the SXSW music festival. The listener-voted lyrical ambassadors will unleash the best of the East and West as they battle it out for the Who’s Next? Hip Hop Artist crown and take home a $10,000 cash prize, professional recording studio time, a Timbaland musical track to keep as their own and the opportunity to perform at either Hot 97’s SummerJam or Power 106’s Powerhouse concerts. All artist submissions must be uploaded by January 23, 2013.
Who’s Next? Battle for the Best 2013 launched on January 9, 2013 on http://whosnext.hot97.com or http://hot97.com and http://whosnext.power106.com or http://power106.com. Aspiring Hip Hop artists are invited to upload their 2 original pieces of music and their music videos. Music fans can vote daily for their favorite artists, starting Thursday, January 24 – Monday, February 4 to determine the 8 finalists for the east and west coasts. In 2012, over 3,700 artists uploaded profiles with songs and videos, and 250,000 fans engaged to pick the best in the USA.
The grand finale showcase in Austin, Texas will feature a live performance by Interscope recording artist, Kendrick Lamar. Hip Hop DX named Kendrick the Emcee of the year for 2012. Kendrick’s performance and the Who’s Next? Battle for the Best 2013 Finale will be streamed live from 3pm – 7pm CST on Power106.com and Hot 97.com. The event will be hosted by Power 106’s Felli Fel and Yesi Ortiz and Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg.
