CareerBliss’ 2013 Best and Worst Cities to Find a Job

Los Angeles Ranks as the Best City for Jobseekers - Boulder ranks the Worst

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CareerBliss, a career community ™ with more than three million available jobs, today released new data on the Best and Worst Cities to Find a Job in 2013. The three factors used to determine the rankings with the most viable job markets were overall employee happiness, unemployment trends and current job availability. If you are willing to relocate, CareerBliss offers the most comprehensive view of the career landscape in 2013.

“To find a city that has a great job market, you must look beyond just one factor”

The title of the CareerBliss Best City to Find a Job in 2013 goes to Los Angeles. When it comes to happy workers and open jobs, the City of Angels reigns supreme. In contrast, one of the worst cities to find a job is Boulder, Colorado. With lower than average employee happiness scores, and a slight upward trend in unemployment in 2012, Boulder ranks as one of the worst cities to find a job in the New Year.

“To find a city that has a great job market, you must look beyond just one factor,” says Heidi Golledge, CEO and Co-founder of CareerBliss. “At CareerBliss, our unique understanding of what makes people happy at work, combined with our unsurpassed knowledge of job trends, and unique career tools available on our website enables us to share information with people to help them assess the best location for their career.”

For many job seekers, Los Angeles may be the city of choice for employment. With an above average happiness score, and a decrease in unemployment, Los Angeles is a prime location for those looking to find a city with happy workers and more job opportunities. Cities that may not share Los Angeles’ warm job climate include New York. The Big Apple did not see a significant reduction in unemployment, and job availability continues to be minimal for the city of its size. Top that with happiness scores that are below average and New York may not be the best place for job seekers in the New Year.

Methodology:

To determine employee happiness in any given city, CareerBliss evaluates independent employee reviews that analyze the 10 key factors that impact a happy work environment including: work-life balance, one’s relationship with his/her boss and co-workers, work environment, job resources, compensation, growth opportunities, company culture, company reputation, daily tasks, and job control over the work performed on a daily basis. The data account for how an employee values each factor. Each review is given an average score indicating where the company places between one and five. CareerBliss evaluated more than thirty thousand independent company reviews. In addition, CareerBliss analyzed the unemployment trends of each city, coupled with the job openings from the time period of November 2011 to November 2012.

“At CareerBliss, we want everyone to be able to find a job that truly makes them happy. Through our unique tools such as our Culture Quiz, three million jobs, company reviews and salary information, we want every person who is looking for a job in 2013 to be equipped with the resources they need to find true career bliss!” says Golledge.
