LOS ANGELES--()--Betty White and her friends at The Lifeline Program adopted Billy the Elephant at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens in honor of Tim Conway, who turned 79 on December 15. The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association’s “Adopt an Animal Program” enables anyone to assist one of the zoo’s terrific residents.

Tim Conway’s ad libbed routine about seeing a pair of Siamese elephants during a freak show is one of the most famous outtakes from “The Carol Burnett Show,” receiving millions of online hits. Betty White said, “Whenever I'm asked, as I frequently am, what my favorite animal is, I never can decide between our beautiful elephant and Tim Conway."

Tim responded, “Thank you for Billy the Elephant. We just need to keep him off the rug.”
