CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BDO USA, LLP, one of the nation’s leading professional service organizations, today announced that Christopher Smith, the firm’s professional practice leader for audit and accounting, has been named to the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The ASB is the AICPA’s senior committee for auditing, attestation, and quality control applicable to the performance and issuance of audit and attestation reports for non issuers.

Christopher A. Smith, is a partner and board member of BDO USA, who serves as the firm’s Professional Practice Leader for Audit and Accounting. With more than 27 years of public accounting experience, Chris has overall responsibility for the technical and administrative practices of BDO’s National Assurance group. Working with the national directors of the firm’s accounting, auditing, and SEC practices, as well as the regional managing partners, and overseeing the activities of the regional technical directors, Chris ensures that the firm’s technical and management goals are achieved. He is actively involved in developing and reviewing BDO’s external responses to standard setting and regulatory proposals, as well as representing BDO through various professional committees and working groups.
A member of the AICPA, California State Society of Certified Public Accountants and Montana State University Accounting Advisory Board; Chris received his M.B.A. in Management at the University of San Francisco and his B.S. in Accounting at Montana State University. An instructor for BDO’s internal and external technical programs, as well as a frequent lecturer for various professional organizations, he has authored several courses on a broad range of technical matters.
The AICPA’s Auditing Standards Board consists of 19 members and includes 5 members from local, regional and other non big four national firms; 5 members nominated by NASBA; 4 members from the big four firms; and 5 users and public members. Up to twenty five percent of the ASB may be non-AICPA members. Customarily, one seat is reserved for a government official or an auditor of government entities, and one seat is reserved for an academician. Each member normally serves for three one-year terms, with reappointment for each term dependent on satisfactory performance.
