MIAMI--()--DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist within Deutsche Post DHL, participated in making commemorative Vietnam War maps a possibility at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. Through their Domestic Freight Services division, DHL Global Forwarding shipped the 12 concrete panels that hold the colored glass mosaic battle maps from Chicago, IL to Honolulu, HI.

“For DHL Global Forwarding, this is a rare opportunity to assist in such an eye-opening, important shipment honoring and illustrating the battles fought by those who served during the Vietnam War,” said Kevin Bock, vice president of U.S. Domestic Freight for DHL Global Forwarding. “This domestic move also demonstrates no shipment is too big or complex for us to handle.”

The battle maps, which measure 3 feet in height and 5 feet in width, and are 400 pounds each, were installed by the engineering firm, The Armbruster Company from Chicago. The battle maps are housed in a pavilion flanking the cemetery’s iconic Lady Columbia statue and are added to the existing World War II and Korean War battle maps and galleries with the names of those missing in action from all three wars. The Vietnam maps were unveiled at a special ceremony on Veterans Day November 11, 2012. The first map depicts the Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia region. The other map depicts locations in South Vietnam and where many major battles and occupations took place.

The project was commissioned by the American Battle Monuments Commission and it is the first federal memorial to the Vietnam War fully funded by the U.S. government.
