Over 100 SECU Elves Prepare and Ship 5,000 Holiday Gift Boxes to NC Soldiers Deployed Throughout the World!

SECU employees and volunteers assemble 5,000 holiday gift boxes for NC soldiers.

RALEIGH, N.C.--()--In the early morning hours of December 1st, over 100 State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) elves from around the State traveled to a Credit Union operations center in Raleigh in anticipation of its 3rd annual SECU Supports the Troops holiday campaign packing day event. As the morning unfolded, the elves, aka SECU staff and volunteers, assembled, labeled and securely taped 5,000 holiday gift boxes filled with “wish list” items for North Carolina National Guardsmen and other North Carolina based deployed soldiers. 34 pallets laden with over 400 cases of “gifts from home” were then loaded into two SECU sleighs – two U.S. Postal Service eighteen-wheelers, for delivery to military bases throughout the world!

With campaign collection efforts beginning in mid-September, SECU’s 245 branches statewide decorated their foyers with creative art displays and accepted “wish list” donations from SECU members and local community groups through October 31st. Included in the holiday boxes were travel sized dental supplies, soap, shampoo, first aid items, games, socks, and snacks. Heartwarming letters from North Carolina school children, expressing thanks for the soldiers’ service to our Country were added as the final touch. Monetary contributions from members were used to help with shipping costs.

SECU Board of Directors Chair McKinley Wooten, who assisted with the December 1st packing, remarked, “SECU’s Supports the Troops holiday campaign is a rewarding project that really demonstrates the Credit Union’s philosophy of ‘People Helping People’. We hope these gifts from home will bring many smiles and great comfort to North Carolina’s military soldiers deployed during this Christmas season. SECU wishes to extend warm holiday wishes and its sincere appreciation to all military personnel for their loyalty, commitment and service to our Country.”
