NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dallas Lawrence (@dallaslawrence), Chief Global Digital Strategist for Burson-Marsteller, has been named Social Media Professional of the Year by PR News at the publication's annual PR People Awards. The award recognizes Lawrence as one of the industry’s leading social media professionals.

In addition to leading a global practice group of digital media strategists, Lawrence serves as the firm’s thought leader on digital and social media trends. The recipient of multiple industry awards throughout his career, in 2011 and 2012 his team’s work was recognized with the top honors for online campaign of the year, digital public affairs program of the year, twitter campaign of the year, online monitoring program of the year and crisis communications program of the year. In 2011 Lawrence was named the “Crisis Manager of the Year” by PR News for his leadership in and expertise in online and offline crisis management.

Before moving to the private sector, Lawrence served for more than four years as a trusted member of President Bush’s communications team as the director of the Office of Community Relations and Public Liaison for the United States Department of Defense for Secretaries Rumsfeld and Gates.
Before his Pentagon service, Lawrence was appointed the Director of Regional Media Outreach and spokesperson for Ambassador L. Paul Bremer and the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, Iraq.
Lawrence is a former commissioned public affairs officer in the United States Navy and is an adjunct instructor at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Arts in Government from The Johns Hopkins University.
