Humana Ranks No. 72 in Newsweek Green Rankings for Second Consecutive Year

Highest ranked health insurer in healthcare industry category

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--For the second year in a row, Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the nation’s leading health and well-being companies, ranked No. 72 in the Newsweek Green rankings of 500 U.S. publicly traded companies. Among all health care companies, Humana came in at No. 12 (out of 51 companies ranked) and was the highest ranked health insurer.

Among its environmental initiatives, Humana has gained ENERGY STAR® certification for its Louisville headquarters building; increased data center efficiency; and pledged to reduce building energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and annual energy expenses by 10 percent each during 2012 from a 2009 baseline.

In addition to the Newsweek rankings, Humana recently scored 90 out of a possible 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) 2012 Corporate Equality Index. The index is generally regarded as the national benchmarking tool on corporate practices related to lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender employees. These rankings underscore Humana’s ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability, as also highlighted in the publication of its 2010 & 2011 Corporate Responsibility Report.
