Classic Car Owners Should Protect Their Batteries over the Winter Months, says CTEK

LONDON--()--With thousands of classic car enthusiasts heading to Birmingham this week for the Classic Motor Show, CTEK, a global battery maintenance and care brand is highlighting the importance of implementing an effective battery maintenance regime for the classic and vintage cars, especially during the winter.

Between the 16th and the 18th of November, the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham will play host one of the largest and best-known classic car shows in the UK with hundreds of exhibitors showing their much loved vehicles. While the bodywork and mechanics of these cars are carefully looked after, their batteries require an equal amount of consideration.

Classic cars are more susceptible to failure, in comparison to modern vehicles, due to being stored away for long periods, without the engine being started. This can lead to a range of different mechanical and electrical issues, in particular damage to the battery. While in storage the battery can lose charge, which can then cause battery failure, and in extreme cold temperatures it can even freeze.

These problems can be easily avoided by using a smart battery charger such as CTEK’s XC 0.8, which has been specifically designed to maintain and charge 6V vintage car batteries. The XC 0.8’s special design allows it to be left safely connected to the vehicle’s battery when in storage to ensure that the battery is kept at the optimum charge level at all times. This eliminates many of the problems that vintage car owners commonly deal with and ensures the car starts first time, even after a lengthy period without use.

Jan-Ulf Soderberg, head of brand and marketing at CTEK, says: “Many classic car owners don’t always have the time to drive their vintage cars all year round and vehicles often are stored away in the colder months. Ensuring a vehicle’s battery is properly charged to its optimum level is a very simple maintenance task with a smart battery charger, such as the CTEK XC 0.8. When a car’s battery is correctly charged during storage it can also help to prevent other electrical issues that the car might face, so vintage car owners should be prepared this winter.”
