LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sonos and The xx have teamed up to curate “Coexist,” a Sonos Studio exhibition cycle which explores the relationship between man and machine, highlighting the prevalence of technology that blurs the line between the two. The xx selected a series of collaborations from the worlds of music, technology, art and film for the exhibition cycle which is the latest and most ambitious project to date for Sonos Studio, the acoustically designed listening gallery that explores the intersection of music, art and technology. The installation, “Missing,” debuts Nov. 15 to the public and runs through Dec. 23 at Sonos Studio (145 N. La Brea, Unit D, Los Angeles).
“Missing” is an interactive installation centered on the beautiful and haunting song of the same name from The xx’s new album, “Coexist,” created by a collective of musicians, artists, engineers and filmmakers brought together by The xx including new media producer Aramique Krauthamer, media artist Kyle McDonald and engineer Matt Mets. The installation features a field of 50 robotic synchronized Sonos players designed to follow the movement of visitors, allowing them to physically wander inside the track’s dark emotional landscape. The result is an uncanny yet familiar feeling of being watched and followed by technology.
Nov. 27 will mark the second event in the series, a listening party with singer/song-writer Solange Knowles and Dev Hynes celebrating the release of their EP, “True.” Knowles will personally walk fans through the process of creating the album, discussing her exploration into the eclectic sounds referenced throughout the music – from '80’s R&B to African percussions.
On Dec. 2, Stones Throw Records founder Peanut Butter Wolf will share what it takes to start an independent record label, including artist selection and management, distribution and marketing. Founded in 1996, Stones Throw Records is an independent record label based in Los Angeles that specializes in funk and soul re-issues.
On Dec. 5, the fourth and final event in the series will feature a multimedia performance with producer/musician Nosaj Thing. Attendees will be submerged into a world of experimental music and instrumental hip-hop and get a sneak peak at the artist’s upcoming album, “Home” - an ethereal synth-based instrumental hip-hop album due out Jan. 22.
