KCI Introduces Canadian Clinicians to the Next Evolution in V.A.C.® Therapy Technology

V.A.C.Ulta Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System Combines Proven V.A.C.® Therapy with New V.A.C. VeraFlo Therapy to Cleanse, Treat and Heal Wounds

SAN ANTONIO & MISSISSAUGA, Ontario--()--Kinetic Concepts, Inc. today announced the Canadian launch of the V.A.C.Ulta Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System at the Canadian Association of Wound Care (CAWC) in London, Ontario, one of the premier wound care conferences in the country.

V.A.C.Ulta Therapy is the latest evolution in V.A.C.® Therapy technology combining V.A.C.® Therapy with instillation – the automated, controlled delivery and removal of topical wound solutions in the wound bed. It will be prominently displayed in an interactive demonstration at the KCI Canada booth where CAWC attendees will be able to dress a wound using the V.A.C.Ulta Therapy System. KCI Canada will make a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association for each of the clinicians who successfully completes a mock dressing application using the V.A.C.Ulta Therapy System.

“This is the first therapy on the Canadian market that offers the flexibility of administering negative pressure wound therapy with or without instillation,” said Jim Cunniff, senior vice president, Americas, KCI. “V.A.C.UltaTherapy has been very well received in other markets around the world, due to its potential to save time and money.”

The V.A.C.Ulta Therapy System builds on KCI’s clinically proven healing technology, offering two therapies in one device – either stand-alone V.A.C.® Therapy or V.A.C. VeraFlo Therapy, which is the combination of V.A.C.® Therapy and instillation. V.A.C. VeraFlo Therapy offers automated, timed delivery of solutions, and is customizable for a wide variety of wound types and promotes healing by:

  • Cleansing the wound with instillation of topical wound cleansers in a consistent, controlled manner
  • Treating the wound with instillation of appropriate topical antimicrobial and antiseptic solutions and the removal of infectious material
  • Healing the wound and preparing for primary or secondary closure

V.A.C. VeraFlo Therapy is optimized by two new disposable dressings designed specifically to allow the distribution and removal of topical wound solutions across the wound bed while distributing negative pressure evenly. V.A.C. VeraFlo Dressing is designed to promote granulation, while V.A.C. VeraFlo Cleanse Dressing is effective in wound hydration, washing and flushing.

“The V.A.C.Ulta System with V.A.C. VeraFlo Therapy will give clinicians in Canada an opportunity to treat wounds that would benefit from the instillation of topical solutions: such as chronic and traumatic, contaminated or infected wounds,” said John Andonoff, business unit director, KCI Canada.

“The introduction of the V.A.C.Ulta Therapy System to the armamentarium of wound care personnel has vastly increased the number of patients who can benefit from this important therapy,” said Mark O’Driscoll, MD, General Surgeon, Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre. “The ability to apply the gold standard NPWT, while simultaneously delivering various wound care solutions, has quickened and improved outcomes of some very difficult to manage wounds.”
