Books-A-Million to Introduce All-New Kids-A-Million at Flagship Store in Birmingham, AL

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Books-A-Million, Inc. (Nasdaq/NM: BAMM), one of the nation’s leading book retailers, will introduce a completely re-designed Kids-A-Million specialty department at its flagship store in Birmingham this week. Customers can tour the new 8,000 square foot Kids-A-Million on Saturday, Nov. 10, during a day of grand opening events that will include kids’ activities, games and giveaways.

“Sales trends from our more than 250 stores across the country and booksamillion.com re-energized our focus on the children’s category and prompted a redesign of Kids-A-Million at our flagship store,” said Terrance G. Finley, Chief Executive Officer and President. “We hope our new Kids-A-Million will help inspire the next generation to create, play and learn.”

To celebrate the grand opening, the first 500 shoppers on November 10 will receive a free Dr. Seuss lunch bag, with one bag holding a $200 BAM! gift card. Every half hour, BAM! will raffle off prizes, including a NOOK Tablet™ and Hasbro toys, such as Furby, Disney Princess, Playmobil, Nerf and more. Raffle prizes will also include gift cards and family passes from Yogurt Mountain, McWane Science Center, Vestavia Bowl, Rave Movie Theater, Dreamcakes, Taziki’s, iJump and many more. Millionaire’s Club Card members will also receive at least 20% off their entire purchase for one day only on Saturday, November 10.

Grand opening kid-friendly activities occurring throughout the day include Bop It and Twister Dance challenges, face painting by Magic City Face Art, Lego mini builds and balloon animal demonstrations by Mr. Twist. Shoppers will even have the chance to take photos with popular characters from Star Wars 501^st Legion, the iconic Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat, everyone’s favorite first grader Junie B. Jones and even the Jelly Belly mascot.

As shoppers participate in grand opening activities, they will see that the entire second floor of the approx. 23,000 square foot Brookwood Village store has been restructured as a dedicated kids-only retail destination, with space to accommodate approximately 12,000 children’s books as well as an expansive inventory of toys, games, gifts and tech.

Bright, kid-friendly fixtures, paint accents and kid-sized seating fill the new space, as well as special displays for popular brands, such as LEGO, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, American Girl, Skip Hop, Star Wars, The Elf on a Shelf, Disney Junior, Angry Birds, Thomas & Friends and Dr. Seuss among others. The new Kids-A-Million also boasts an increased inventory of learning tools and educational resources from LeapFrog, Brain Quest, Spectrum Workbooks and NatGeo journals and literature.

To enhance the shopper experience, a dedicated Kids-A-Million team will be on hand to offer specialized expertise about kids’ books, toys, games and more. This team includes a community ambassador, who will engage young readers by hosting special events, birthday parties and regular story times on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:00 a.m.
